The ultimate goal of psychotherapy is to treat the whole person but we may use particular techniques to treat specific problems.
I am trained in the following psychotherapy models:
• Psychoanalytic
• Dialectical-Behaviour (DBT)
• Cognitive behavioural (CBT)
I am particularly interested in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, which is based on the observation that people are often unaware of many of the factors that determine their emotions, thinking, and behaviour. These unconscious factors may create unhappiness, sometimes in the form of symptoms and at other times as difficulties in love or work relationships, or repetitive destructive patterns of behaviour. Because these forces are unconscious, the advice of family and friends, or self-help books often fail to provide relief. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is a therapeutic process which helps patients understand and resolve their problems by increasing awareness of their inner world and it’s influence over relationships both past and present. It differs from most other therapies in aiming for a deep-seated change in personality and in enhancing emotional development.
